The program is devoted to the study of the lived experiences of African descendants in the United States and elsewhere in the African Diaspora; including the Caribbean and Latin America regions, as well as to continental Africa. The mission of the AAAS doctoral program is the production and creation of knowledge and the training of Black Studies disciplinary teacher-scholars. The program is dedicated to the cultivation of scholars committed to academic excellence and social responsibility in local, national, and global African descendant and African communities.
